Confronting the past is never easy.

Cole Whitaker is happy. He has the job and boyfriend he always wanted. His heart’s in no danger of being broken, and he can’t ask for more from life. As a kindergarten teacher, he sees it all; however, one troublesome student has him reaching out to the parent, wanting to help. There’s something about Savanah that tugs at his heartstrings.

He never expected her father.

Zander Brooks hasn’t had an easy life, and he’s made some mistakes. Freshly retired from the military and working as a firefighter, Zander thought he’d left Cole in the rearview mirror. He’s not expecting him to appear in St. Petersburg, Florida, of all places, teaching his daughter’s kindergarten class. Suddenly, his biggest mistake is being shoved in his face.

This is Zander’s chance to close a door he’d never fully shut, but time with his former flame might change his mind.

Accepting the Fall is a standalone contemporary m/m romance.

Cole and Zander met as teenagers while their fathers were stationed over in Berlin. They quickly move from friends to each other's first boyfriend. Unfortunately Cole wanted more from the relationship then Zander was able to handle ending in heartbreak for Cole. Life went on, Cole and his family moved away, he grew up, went to college and eventually became a kindergarten teacher in Florida. Enter one fiesty, challenging little girl by the name of Savannah, a new student in Cole's class. She's combative, and is not above challenging her teachers and other students causing lots of issues. Cole, at wit's end, requests a meeting with her parents. A meeting that will shake Cole's world up and having him questioning what he wants.

Zander is now raising his daughter, Savannah, a child he didn't even know he had until a year ago. He's changed his life, left the Marines, and has moved to Florida and become a firefighter all to give her a stable life. He's totally lost as a parent, and really has no clue what he's doing with her. Until he has to meet with her teacher, who just happens to be Cole. Seeing him again, brings up all those memories and feelings that Zander pushed so far away. Now he has to learn to deal with his daughter and all those feelings and what they mean for his life.

Accepting The Fall is a sort of slow burn, second-chance at romance story. While I enjoyed many aspects of the storyline, and the characters individually... I felt like the connection wasn't completely there between Cole and Zander. I mean they had the history but at some points they didn't feel like they were a couple or even working toward being a couple. I think the buildup was just to reserved maybe, at least for me. Again though... I enjoyed aspects of the storyline, particularly Zander learning to deal with Savannah and admitting he, himself, had issues that needed to be addressed. I adored Cole and his menagerie of animals and all his wanting to do good things for others.

Overall this was a decent storyline outside of what I felt was missing. The epilogue made a lot of that feel go away because it was an absolutely perfect epilogue. As always I recommend that everyone read the story for themselves because what doesn't work for one reader may work for another. If you're looking for a second-chance romance to read this would be one to consider.
