Keeping secrets is never a good way to start a relationship

Theo hardly has time to date. Between work and caring for his four-year-old son there aren’t many hours left over. He’s lonely though, so he joins a hook-up app and starts chatting to a guy called Luke. Luke seems friendly and they arrange to meet. Theo doesn’t mention that he has a child. It’s early days and he’s worried about putting Luke off before they get to know each other.

Luke is currently working as Santa at the local shopping mall. He figures Theo never has to know. Christmas will be over soon and Luke will move on to a new, less embarrassing job. He’s surprised when Theo and a little boy visit Santa one afternoon. Theo doesn’t recognise Luke, and Luke realises he’s not the only one with a secret.

Despite misgivings on both sides, they start dating, and the chemistry is amazing. But as Christmas approaches their secrets pile up like colourful packages under the tree. If they’re not careful, they’ll lose the best gift of all—each other.

4 out of 5 stars

Secret Santa is a new contemporary stand alone m/m holiday romance with two very likable main characters.

This is almost one of those accidental meeting type of romance, since the two main characters 'met' via a hookup app but neither were looking for a real hookup. Both men were over the one night stands and looking for find something a little more permanent and for lack of a better word, real. Both men had secrets but neither were what I'd call deal breakers once the other found out about it. In fact it led up to a rather sweetly adorable scene in the story, after all this is a holiday story and what's better than a little boy, his dinosaurs, and Santa and his beard.

I thoroughly enjoyed both characters, but favored Theo just a bit more than Luke. I felt that Luke was teetering on that edge of being mature but not quite there yet. So I wasn't a 100% sure how good of a match he would truly be for Theo since he has a little boy. Luke did prove me wrong in the end, I just would have liked to have seen him a little more settled in his own skin. Although, too, for all his responsibilities, Theo is working at a retail location, even if it's on the IT side. But, too, they're both younger and still have some adulting to finish. I actually even liked that aspect because it does allow for that character growth that a good story should encompass.

Secret Santa has quite a few silly moments, a few serious moments, and some sexy hot moments between Theo and Luke. So the story covers all the right points to make this a really cute, fun, and light holiday read. Which was just what Santa ordered for this reader. I highly enjoyed this book and suggest that you pick this one up for some holiday weekend reading.

Author Bio

Jay lives just outside Bristol in the West of England. He comes from a family of writers, but always used to believe that the gene for fiction writing had passed him by. He spent years only ever writing emails, articles, or website content.

One day, Jay decided to try and write a short story—just to see if he could—and found it rather addictive. He hasn’t stopped writing since.

Jay writes contemporary romance about men who fall in love with other men. He has five books published by Dreamspinner Press, and also self-publishes under the imprint Jaybird Press. Many of his books are now available as audiobooks.

Jay is transgender and was formerly known as she/her.
